During this challenging time, you will be dealing with a variety of public and private agencies and individuals in the rebuilding of your home. It is important that you discuss your short and long term plans so we can recommend the best approach. Please contact Bryson & Hammer at for information on demolition, or rebuilding questions.
Yes. Please consult a General Contractor to discuss. Please call Bryson & Hammer at 619-733-2274 for information on permits for rebuilding.
No. You are encouraged to remove debris as quickly as possible to make sure your property is safe. Your city may require a site inspection to determine if there is any hazardous waste. You local resource center will confirm if needed.
The foundation systems and the under-slab utilities were subject to extreme heating and rapid cooling in a very short period of time. In order to determine if you can use your remaining foundation, you will need to hire a licensed geotechnical or civil engineer to make that assessment. Please do not remove your foundation until your insurance adjustor and FEMA have been out to assess the damage.
You may put up a temporary power pole if it is needed to service your trailer, mobile home, or if you have a well that needs power to operate. A permit is required from the Building Division.
You will need to obtain a Temporary Use Permit from the City before establishing a temporary home on your property. The purpose of the permit is to ensure that you have adequate utilities, and there are no health and safety issues.
Yes. A Demolition Permit from the Building Division is required. Please do not remove your slab until your property damage has been assessed by your insurance adjustor and FEMA.
The availability of building plans depends on the age of the structure and type of information needed. To check if we have your house plans on file, call the Building Division at (858) 668-4645. Please be aware that if we do have the plans on file, you will need to have the plans modified to reflect current Building and Fire Codes before you submit for a Building Permit. Please call Bryson & Hammer at 619-733-2274 for information on permits for rebuilding.
If you are not increasing the size of your house, or adding 750 square feet or less, and are building in the same location as the previous house, you will need to have plans prepared and approved by the City and a Building Permit issued. If you are adding square footage, a permit fee will be charged for the additional square footage. The fee is based on the valuation of the work. If you are increasing the size of your home by more than 750 square feet, adding a second story that is greater than 750 square feet, or modifying the building pad by raising or lowering it, or changing the location of your house on the site, you will need to obtain approval of a Minor Development Review Application (MDRA) and a Building Permit.
The City does not recommend any specific contractor. However, residents are encouraged to use the Better Business Bureau www.bbb.org and the State Contractor’s Board www.cslb.ca.gov as resources to locate a licensed and insured contractor. Bryson & Hammer Inc. is a licensed, bonded, General Contractor and can assist you in your clean up and rebuild needs. Please contact us for further information.
